Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the program of disbursement of primary education stipend using mobile banking. She officially launched this innovative project of disbursing primary education stipend using Rupali Bank SureCash mobile banking to 10 million mothers’ accounts benefitting 13 million students by video conference with mothers of Tungipara (Gopalganj), Pirganj (Rangpur) and Parbatipur (Dinajpur).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “Disbursement of primary stipend using Rupali Bank SureCash mobile banking is a big step forward in building Digital Bangladesh.”
Prime Minister added, “Mothers do not have to go anywhere or wait long hours to get stipend money. This shows how rural people are getting benefits of our digital services.”
During the inauguration, Prime Minister talked with the beneficiary mothers from three upazilas over video conferencing from Gonobhaban.
Minister of Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Advocate Mostafizur Rahman, MP said, “From today, 10 million mothers will get their child’s stipend in their mobile account staying at home. It’s a historic moment.” The Minister added, “The main benefit of this digital platform of sending money using mobile banking is that there is no scope of anomaly or pilferage.”
Secretary of Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Mohammad Asif-Uz-Zaman said, “We are getting a large database of 10 million mothers, 10 million fathers and 13 million students through this initiative. This data will be used in many programs such as book printing, school monitoring, and result analysis.”
Managing Director of Rupali Bank Limited Md. Ataur Rahman Prodhan said about this program, “We have introduced Rupali Bank SureCash mobile banking service to provide financial services to all people in the country and to enable them to do banking from home.”
Chief Executive Officer of SureCash Dr. Shahadat Khan said, “Rupali Bank SureCash payment platform software is completely developed for Bangladesh, by young software engineers of the country.”
Primary education stipend plays an important role in increasing the enrollment of primary students and retaining them in school. This program covers 60,000 primary schools and 13 million students. Usually, the stipend is distributed to mothers of the students every quarter. The government is disbursing about 14 billion taka each year as primary education stipend.
In this program, Rupali Bank SureCash has opened mobile banking account for each mother. Now mothers will receive stipend directly into their mobile banking accounts. Once received, they can withdraw the money at nearby Rupali Bank SureCash agents, make payments or decide to save it for future. Since each mother is getting a bank account, this will expedite financial inclusion and women empowerment.
Teletalk has introduced a new product named ‘Mayer Hashi’ for this program where they provide mobile SIMs to mothers and give 20 taka talk-time every month free of charge.
Rupali Bank SureCash is a comprehensive mobile banking and payment platform, through which a customer can send money, make various payments such as education fees, utility bills, and online purchases, recharge mobile balance and receive personal remittance using own phone. Customers may open mobile banking account or deposit/withdraw cash at any SureCash retail agents distributed around the country.
