Dhaka – 24th August – Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Rupali Bank and Teletalk signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the disbursement of primary stipend through mobile banking. Under this MoU, government will use Rupali Bank SureCash mobile banking service to disburse stipends to mothers all over the country and Teletalk will provide free mobile phone SIMs to the mothers.
The honorable Minister Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (MoPME) Advocate Mostafizur Rahman M.P. attended the ceremony as chief guest and honorable State Minister Tarana Halim M.P. of Department of the telecommunication division was the special guest. The MoU was signed by Secretary of MoPME Mohammad Humayun Khalid, Acting Managing Director of Rupali Bank Mr. Debasish Chakrabarty and Managing Director of Teletalk Mr. Gias Uddin Ahmed. The program was also attended by ADG of Directorate of Primary Education and additional Secretary Dr. Md. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Chief Executive Officer of SureCash Dr. Shahadat Khan and high officials from the related organizations.
Minister Advocate Mostafizur Rahman said, “Disbursement of stipend through mobile banking is the government’s biggest payment digitization initiative. Through this, government will send stipend money directly to the mothers’ mobile banking accounts. This will make stipend program management easier and more efficient, and will reduce hassle for the mothers.”
“Mothers will play the most important role in the realization of our dream of Digital Bangladesh. We therefore have taken joint initiative where Teletalk will provide free mobile connections to the mothers, Rupali bank will provide them mobile banking accounts, and government will disburse stipends directly to their accounts”, commented Honorable State Minister Tarana Halim.
“As part of this initiative, we are developing a complete database for primary students and their parents which will be used for planning and other digitization activities”, said Secretary Mohammad Humayun Khalid.
Managing Director of Teletalk Mr. Gias Uddin Ahmed said, “Teletalk has created a new product called ‘Mayer Hashi’ (meaning Mother’s Smile) in order to deliver mobile phones to all mothers. We will provide free SIMs and 20 taka free talk time every month to the mothers.”
“Rupali Bank is the first government bank in Bangladesh that introduced mobile financial services. We intent to participate in all payment digitization projects of the government”, said Acting Managing Director of Rupali Bank Mr. Debasish Chakrabarty.
